In his unique collage-style, Ulu Braun creates a space betwixt and between reality and the digital world, where people of the past or present, either mythological or real characters, and their artefacts are juxtaposed on dramatic naturescapes. The derelict building of a timeless inn lies at the confluence of this political and social landscape across ages, somewhere in Europe. “This video collage combines pop culture and western movie myths with biblical narratives, biker culture and the waste products of civilisation with cultural set pieces to subtly create an intriguing and mesmerising narrative critique of civilization that resonates for a long time.” (Jury of the German Competition – International Short Film Festival Oberhausen 2017)

Curatorial comment:
An unreal place, half dream, half reality, which shows itself to be a meeting point for people from all epochs, is taking shape in front of us in a long planned sequence. In a nearly surreal time journey, the pictures unveil themselves as if they were painted in strong, rich colours – disturbing, unsettling and fascinating. Where is the journey going? The short film award goes to a politically relevant work that is treading along new paths. (Jury of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival)
