After last year’s impressive success, the special program dedicated to dance-films returns to Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival BIEFF, this time through an inspiring partnership with with one of the main European dance-film festivals: CINEDANS – Dance on Screen Festival Amsterdam. Cinema and dance merge in seven charming short films, in which the human body becomes synonymous with emotion, a means of defining one’s own personal identity, of reclaiming the urban space, an expression of love and community.

Referencing Jung's seminal work Modern Man in Search of a Soul, this theme program is primarily an internal examination, a reflection on the self, on the divine and demonic nature of mortals, of the arts, and, beyond that, a desire to transcend them. There are no limits to the exploration of the soul, and neither to the techniques through which the films in this program were made, starting from experimental documentary, to animation, CGI and motion capture.

The Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival BIEFF international competition continues its thematic inquiries, looking at the forces that shape us, give us strength, but also confine us, within the program FAMILY TIES: Love Bonds or Prison Bars? Going beyond the conventional definition of a family, we expand its meaning and explore its nuances and the structures similar to it that govern our lives; any system that nurtures our perception of the world, of ourselves and teaches us the rules of being. We think of our family of relatives, of friends, of beliefs, of social behaviours and sexual roles.

The BIEFF 2014 International Competition confronts us with the reality of a new human species, Homo Urbanus, and his unexpected and permanently changing faces. The theme program URBAN GHOSTSBetween Foreboding and Nostalgia explores the symptoms of urbanization, the inner tensions of contemporary man: caught between here and therenow and then, between the longing for an idealized past and an uncertain threatening future, estranged from his environment, from others and, ultimately, himself, and yet in a continuous process of recovering and redefining his humanity.
