In A Long Story Short, the director’s gamble is to create an allegory of human life using two snails as a starting point and building up a discourse on the stages in the life of a human, which works two-ways: on the one hand, there is the romantic approach embracing both the natural and the norm. On the other hand, it works just as well as a banalization of its own cycle. (Călin Boto, BIEFF 2018)

Curatorial comment:
In Andrei Olănescu’s short film, the equating the apparently irrelevant life of two snails to the apparently relevant life of any two human beings happens organically, even if no human presence is apparent. Using intertitles to delimitate the stages of the snails’ lifelines, the director achieves a cinematic and ideological staging of a series of shots of noteworthy observational value. (Călin Boto, BIEFF 2018)
