A series of psychoanalytic thoughts expressed through voice-overs accompany images of body parts reconstructing a body that has violent sexual suggestions. ALL WE NEED IS SLAVES is an editing experiment with a very precise rhythm, presenting an original concept of combining erogenous zones of the body with sense organs, building the puzzle of a Sambuca dream in which the delirium takes the lead. The collage leaves no room for spontaneous interpretation, as the images’ transformation and succession is so quick, therefore, the spectators’ ideas over the movie appear strictly in the subconscious. (Bianca Bănică, BIEFF)
Director:

LUIS NIETO was born in Colombia where he studied visual communication and went on to become an art director at various advertising agencies. He then moved to France where he decided to focus on film direction and so began his directing career. Nieto broke on to the scene with his short film, CARLITOPOLIS, crafted at the end of his studies in 2006, winning several awards including the 2006 Adobe Achievement Award and the Audience Award in Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival. He excels as a painter, an animator, a designer, live action director and graphic artist – all of which skills are portrayed throughout his work.

Curator's comment:
ALL WE NEED IS SLAVES manages to dehumanize the body, to create a certain distance between the regular sexual perception of a body and the almost monstrous collage that can suggest a primary instinct aimed directly towards dispersed parts (organs) and not towards the person as a whole. A head with ten eyes has in the middle a big mouth with a huge tongue, several arms come out of a head with one eye, the size of the mouth below that has some very red lips and a smooth trace of beard, heads with three mouths each, a hammer playing a piano seen from inside a wide opened mouth, words written with the help of hands and fingers and a little mouth bouncing on top of them, like on karaoke lyrics. The astonishing rhythm of the images, combined with the almost unintelligible whispers and the violent shouts can represent the warped perception that sexual thoughts can bring in a person’s subconscious. Delirious glimpses of body parts repeating themselves, combining themselves in an almost hallucinating experience. (Bianca Bănică, BIEFF)
